My name is Chris Madrigal, and I’m a digital media, sports media, podcast, and documentary producer. For as long as I can remember, I have loved visual storytelling. Growing up in the San Francisco Bay Area, my brother and I bought our first camera at a garage sale when I was ten years old, and I have been making videos ever since! Whether filming music videos, creating our own short films, or just capturing friends and family in day-to-day life, I have always been hooked on capturing content.
My biggest passion and interest has always been sports and sports culture. Being the son of Oakland A’s and Cal Berkeley Football season ticket holders, as well as the grandson of a Nebraska Sports Hall of Fame football player, had a major part in that. Growing up, my fondest memories were going to the Oakland Coliseum on a Saturday summer afternoon to catch a ball game or playing 18 holes of golf with my grandfather in Arizona during spring break. Sports have always been a big part of my life and are definitely a central piece of who I am. With my background in sports, it should be no surprise that I made my way into sports media.
After graduating from Sacramento State University, I moved to Los Angeles in 2014. I worked in media production for years, producing mostly music videos and branded content. From 2017 to 2019, I produced two music videos and production managed over a dozen, including a viral music video for the hip hop artist Drake for his song "Nice For What."
Since 2019, I’ve focused primarily on sports media, covering a variety of sports across several different media formats. Most of my work has been in the form of documentary films. I’ve had the pleasure of working on incredible documentary films and series such as Russell Westbrook: Passion Play on Showtime, Destination NBA: A G League Odyssey on Amazon Prime Video, Skin In The Game on ESPN+, and Man In The Arena on ESPN, for which we won an Emmy for Outstanding Sports Documentary Series. My most recent endeavor is a four-part documentary series about the rock and roll band Bon Jovi titled Thank You, Good Night: The Bon Jovi Story, which airs on Hulu.
In addition to my work in sports documentary, I cohost and produce a baseball podcast called The Town Tailgate Podcast. My cohost Julio Reynoso and I cover Major League Baseball as a whole, but we specifically cover the Oakland Athletics, providing weekly analysis.
Having the opportunity to tell amazing stories that people love in the world of sports has been an absolute dream. I love the work I do and the content that I help deliver to fans all over the world. Sports media and filmmaking is my dream job, and I wouldn’t have it any other way!
Religion of Sports Media
A 10-part documentary series following the historic career of Tom Brady with an inside look at his life on and off the field.
Our objective with this series was to interview Brady and his teammates about the most crucial pieces to the success of each of his ten Super Bowl seasons. From there, we built the storylines of each episode, matching archival footage and motion graphics with our filmed interviews.
Role: Production Manager
Religion of Sports Media
A three-part documentary series offering fans an exclusive behind-the-scenes look at the fascinating life of Aaron Rodgers, one of the NFL’s most outspoken and polarizing figures.
This series followed Rodgers over the course of a year during his first season with the New York Jets, a season dramatically cut short just three plays in due to a season-ending Achilles tendon injury. Our goal was to uncover the man behind the headlines—exploring who Rodgers is off the field and examining why he remains such a controversial figure in the media. The series also documented his determined journey toward recovery, as he aimed to defy expectations and become one of the fastest athletes to return to the field after such a significant injury.

Religion of Sports Media
A four-part documentary series telling the story of one of the biggest rock bands of the 1980s: Bon Jovi.
Our objective with this series was film the band on tour for their 40th year anniversary while also interviewing the each member and important figures around the band. This allowed us to gather all the details of Bon Jovi’s history and match those interviews with archival footage that would ultimately lead the story ending with the footage we captured in real time of the 40th year anniversary tour.

Religion of Sports Media
A documentary feature film taking the viewer inside the NBA’s G-League, a developmental basketball league that feeds young talent to the NBA and giving older players who have had some string of bad luck in their career another chance to make it into the sports top league.
Our objective for this film was to follow eight players of all different backgrounds, stories, ages and levels of their career to show the types of players that play in this league: some of them young up-and-coming future stars of the NBA, some in their 30s on their last leg to try and get that last NBA contract, and some who have faced adversity to get to this point in their career and want to see how far their talent can take them. We filmed with this group for one season with full access to the league and players, which allowed us to put together each player’s story from start to finish.

Religion of Sports Media
A six-part studio talk show/documentary series diving deep into racism in sports and how it has affected athletes, leagues and culture. This series is hosted by prestigious race and culture professor and writer Dr. Ibram X Kendi.
Our objective with this series was to explore the role of racism in sports, from its history of influence to how it has shaped sports culture today. Each episode is a panel discussion in a studio discussing different race challenges and their place in sports. These filmed panel discussions were inner-cut with feature pieces, which we produced by going out in the field and filming numerous current or former professional athletes. We explored the themes of the panel in these field shoots to help give the audience context to how these themes are practiced in sports.

Religion of Sports Media
A documentary feature film about the professional basketball player Russell Westbrook. This film took a behind-the-scenes look at Westbrook as a person, his background growing up in South Central Los Angeles, and why he is such a polarizing figure in sports media.
Our objective for this project was to film with Westbrook for two years to capture his daily life at home, on the road being a player in the NBA and his family. We also took a look into his past and upbringing by interviewing family and close friends, blending that with archival footage and photos. Lastly, we wanted to tell the story of how sports media sees him as such a polarizing figure and why he is regularly a negative talking point in the media by giving examples of archival footage of media outlets talking about him.
